Canadian travelers will receive a copy of the approved ETA for Australia sent via email once the processing on their application has been completed .
It can take up to 3 business days for the processing of their Australian ETA visa application to be completed and sometimes longer if there is additional processing required. Therefore, Canadian citizens are advised to plan ahead and apply for an Australian visa waiver ahead of time to account for any delays that may occur.
It is important for travelers to bring a printed copy of the Australian ETA with them for the trip, as it may be required for entry into the country along with the traveler’s passport.
Canadian travelers arriving in Australia by air will also be required to fill out an Incoming Passenger Card which is typically used to make customs, quarantine, and cash declarations before arriving in the country. The IPC also asks the passenger to list the addresses in Australia where they will be staying and any contacts they may have on the ground.
Travelers should always make an effort to leave the country before an Australian ETA expires to avoid overstaying. The Australian Home Office also requires all foreign travelers to immediately inform them should their contact information, such as email address or phone number, changes.
The Australian ETA visa allows travelers from Canada to stay in Australia for a maximum of 90 consecutive days. Travelers are also allowed multiple entries into the country during its period of validity.
Canadian travelers that are interested in staying longer than 3 consecutive months in Australia will need to apply for one of the visa types from the nearest Australian embassy or consulate.
