Australian ETA for South Korean Citizens

  • Simplified Application Form
  • Expert Application Review
  • Approved visa or money back

The Australian government requires all South Koreans to obtain a visa or travel authorization in order to be allowed entry into the country. While it is necessary to apply for a visa from a local Australian embassy or consulate for long-term stays, those traveling to Australia for up to 3 months are eligible to apply for an Australian ETA online.

An ETA for Australia is an electronic travel authorization that is available to citizens from a select group of countries, including South Korea, based on visa reciprocity agreements that have been signed between the governments of these countries and the government of Australia.

The primary advantage of applying for an Australian ETA visa waiver from South Korea is that it saves travelers time and effort in obtaining travel authorization and entering the country upon arrival for short-term visits.

Are South Koreans Eligible to Obtain an Australian ETA?

Yes, South Koreans are eligible to apply for an Australian ETA visa waiver online. However, before beginning the application process they must ensure they meet the basic requirements, and have:

  • A current email address to receive updates and notifications regarding the application
  • A South Korean passport with a validity of at least 6 months from the intended date of arrival in Australia
  • A valid credit/debit card to pay the processing fee for the Australian ETA.

The Australian government also obliges South Korean applicants for an ETA to meet certain health requirements such as being free from Tuberculosis and not having any past criminal convictions.

it should be noted that those traveling from South Korea to Australia with children are required to submit a separate application on behalf of each child if they have their own passport, and are not included on the passport of their parent or guardian.

What Does the Australian ETA Visa Application Process Entail?

Travelers can begin the application process for an Australian ETA for South Koreans by filling out an online form with their personal and passport details. They will also be required to answer a few questions related to their travel plans and security matters to submit the application.

It is important to ensure the accuracy of the information entered on the application form while applying for the Australian ETA visa waiver. This is because small errors or missing information can cause processing delays or even result in a denial of the authorization in some cases.

Since there is a processing fee associated with applying for the ETA, it is also necessary to have a valid debit or credit card that can be used for making online payments in order to complete the application.

Once the processing fee has been paid, the application can be submitted for review by the Australian Home Office.

An approved Australian ETA authorization for South Korean citizens is electronically linked to the applicant’s passport. Therefore, travelers can only gain entry into Australia if they travel on the same passport that they used to apply for the ETA visa.

This also means that if the traveler loses their passport, they will be required to obtain a new online authorization in order to visit the country.

How Long Does It Take to Get an Australian ETA from South Korea?

South Korean citizens who have submitted an online visa application can expect to receive an approved ETA within 3 business days. Once the processing is complete, the ETA visa waiver is sent to the applicant’s email address.

However, Travelers are nevertheless advised to apply for the ETA for Australia as soon as they know their travel dates, as processing may take longer in some cases.

Traveling to Australia from South Korea with an ETA

South Korean travelers are advised to print a copy of the approved ETA once they receive it via email, as, upon arrival, Australian border control may ask to see this printout alongside the electronically linked passport.

South Korean ETA holders traveling to Australia by air will also be required to complete an Incoming Passenger Card while on the plane, which is used to make custom, quarantine and cash declarations. The IPC also requires travelers to list the address at which they will be staying in the country, as well as any contacts they may have in Australia.

South Korean travelers should note that they are required to inform the Australian Home Office at once if their phone number or email address changes at any time during their stay.

An Australian ETA allows South Korean holders a maximum stay of 90 consecutive days in the country with each entry. It is valid for a 12-month period, meaning travelers can enter Australia multiple times as long as the stay does not exceed 90 consecutive days.

If South Koreans wish to stay in the country for longer consecutive periods, or for purposes such as to study or work, they must contact their nearest Australian diplomatic mission to apply for a visa.
