The Digital Passenger Declaration for Australia is no longer a requirement to enter Australia.

The Australia Travel Declaration (ATD), renamed the Digital Passenger Declaration, is a mandatory travel health form that all arriving passengers must present on arrival.

This travel health document must be completed before departure, and shown to officials when requested.

Failure to show a completed travel declaration will put you at risk of refused entry into Australia, or you could even face criminal charges.

The ATD is a type of Travel Health Certificate for all overseas visitors.

The document helps the Australian government to monitor and control the spread of COVID-19.

How does it work?

Each passenger must complete the Australia Travel Declaration before travelling, which can be done online.

The information requested relates to personal contact details, travel information, current health status, and COVID-19 restrictions.

The details provided allow Australian health authorities to quickly contact passengers for contact tracing purposes.

The health and restrictions questions act as a health declaration for the traveler. Visitors must state if they are experiencing any coronavirus symptoms, and inform authorities of what requirements they are obliged to follow.

The Australia travel health form must be shown when boarding and at border crossings. This way, officials can ensure that each passenger has followed the correct policies before entering Australia.

Who Needs to Complete the Australia Travel Declaration Form?

The Digital Passenger Declaration for Australia is a mandatory travel requirement for all overseas visitors.

If you intend to enter Australia from abroad, you must follow this procedure. If you fail to abide by this travel requirement, you risk being refused entry and may be liable for a fine or criminal charges. 

Do children need to complete the form?

Children of all ages must also have their own completed travel declaration form.

Parents and guardians of children under the age of 15 should complete the declaration on their behalf.

Travelers who are 15 years old and over are obliged to fill in their own form.

Each child must have their own individual declaration. There is no option to group applications together.

Is anyone exempt from the Australia Travel Declaration?

There are no exemptions for the Australia travel health form. Anyone wishing to enter the country must have a completed document to show to officials.

Australia Health Declaration Form Requirements

Due to the constantly evolving nature of the pandemic, you should check the current COVID-19 travel restrictions for Australia to ensure that you are allowed to travel there.

Before you complete the Digital Passenger Declaration, you should make sure that you have the following prepared:

  • Passport information
  • Contact details
  • Travel information
  • Travel history for the last 14 days

In line with Australia’s current coronavirus requirements, all passengers must also provide evidence that they have been fully vaccinated.

Depending on the individual coronavirus restrictions for each state and territory, you may also be required to quarantine on arrival. 

Before traveling, you should check the restrictions for your place of arrival and your final destination.

To be granted access into Australia, you must be:

  • Eligible to enter
  • Fully vaccinated
  • In possession of the Digital Passenger Declaration

If you do not meet all three of these requirements, you will not be allowed to enter.

Australia Travel Declaration Online Registration

The travel health form for Australia is quick and easy to complete. It can be done completely online, and takes a matter of minutes.

The declaration must be submitted at least 72 hours before departure for Australia.

You must be able to prove that you completed the travel health form before boarding.

Health declaration form application

The first step of the process is to create an account. This allows you to submit your Australia Travel Declaration and manage your current and future travel health forms.

The online form asks you to provide information related to your contact and travel details, then you must make legally binding declarations regarding the following:

  • Vaccination status
  • Last 14 days of travel
  • Quarantine and testing requirements

The information and declarations provided must be true and accurate. Giving false or midleading information is a serious offence, which could lead to criminal conviction.

Receiving your travel declaration 

Once you have submitted Australia Travel Declaration form, you will be receive an email with the completed document.

You email will have a specific category, based on the quarantine regulations in your destination state: green, blue, or red.

Green response (with a tick) means that you either do not have to quarantine or that you have pre-approved home quarantine.

Blue response (with an hourglass) means that you must quarantine on arrival.

Red response (with a cross) means that your airline will decide if you can travel to Australia. If you are allowed to travel, you will need to quarantine on arrival.

Once you have your confirmation email, it can then be printed or shown on an electronic device.

Can I modify the information once the form has been submitted?

Once you have submitted the Digital Passenger Declaration for Australia you cannot go back and modify your answers.

If you have made a mistake, or something has changed, you will have to delete your current declaration and submit a new one.

  • Do children have to complete the Australia Digital Passenger Declaration?

    All passengers, including children, must complete the Australia Health Declaration.

    For children under the age of 15, an accompanying adult can complete the travel health form on their behalf.

    Anyone over the age of 15 must complete the declaration themselves.

    All children must have their own travel document, you cannot group forms together.

    Yes, currently all foreign visitors over the age of 4 must have a negative PCR test result to enter Australia.

    Only PCR tests are accepted, antigen tests will not be sufficient.

    The test must be taken no more than 3 days before the scheduled departure date.

    This rule also applies to passengers who are transiting through Australia.

  • Does Australia have a mandatory quarantine?

    Australia has different COVID-19 restrictions depending on the state or territory. The rules for quarantine depend on your destination.

    Currently, only passengers traveling to Victoria, Australian Capital Territory, and New South Wales do not need to quarantine. For travel to all other parts of Australia, visitors may be subject to quarantine.
